Goal Setting Your Way Into 2020

12/30/2019

It's the final countdown! (yes, I am singing Europe in my head right now)
It's currently December 30th and there is one full day remaining in 2019. 364 days of this year are over and we have 1 day left to prep for the start of 2020.
Since we've been talking a lot about goal setting lately, I wanted to take a few minutes to detail what I've been doing to get focused on 2020. My hope is that it may help some of you get inspired. Below is a quick and dirty summary of my 2020 gameface workout.

Rachel Hollis's Last 90 Days Challenge:
- Goal Setting
- Start Today Journal
- 5 to Thrive
https://thehollisco.com/pages/last-90-days

You can do this anytime!  It doesn't have to be the last 90 days of the year!

Developed a Disciplined Morning Routine
In addition to the 5 to Thrive mentioned above, I've incorporated the following:
Pray - I start my routine in prayer everyday. It helps me to center my heart.
Bible Study - I read a passage from the bible
Meditate - I operate in a lot of chaos, so incorporating meditation into my morning ritual, and throughout the day, has been a huge blessing.
I do my gratitude journaling, workout and try to drink as much water as possible in the morning, so I'm starting my day off on the right track to completing my 5 to Thrive.
Over the Past Week
  • I reviewed my previous goals.
  • I thoughtfully reflected on the past year and wrote down lessons I've learned in 2019.  Hint: This can be emotional, so prepare yourself.
  • Identified my new Why. This is not something that has to be done frequently, but recently my why came to fruition, so I needed to revisit it. Identifying your why is important because you will want to reflect on this when times get difficult, or if you've gotten off path and need inspiration to engage. This is what you'll visualize when you're looking for motivation to get out of bed on a cold winter morning at 5am.
    • What's my why? I want to live a life of intention. I want to inspire my children and make them proud. I want to leave a legacy of value and contribution. Years from now, I want to sit on my porch, with my children and grandchildren, freely in the moment, thoroughly at peace, having no regrets.
  • I went through Rachel Hollis's goal setting exercise in Episode 72 of the Rise Podcast.
  • I identified my Top 10 Dreams and the #1 Goal that I am immediately going to start working on to move closer to living my best life in 2020!  Secret: My 1st Goal of 2020 is to complete our book outline and educate myself on what is needed to pitch a book for a publishing deal.
Listen to Rise: Episode 72
  • For funsies, I listened a Tony Robbins Goal Setting podcast and checked out a few other YouTube videos as well.
Tony Robbins Goal Setting
  • My husband, Buddy and I worked with our children to help them establish their goals for the year.
  • Buddy and I also sat down and reviewed our goals together, so we can understand the desires of our hearts and support each other in our efforts to be our best selves.
  • I write my goals down daily and evaluate where I am quarterly. Otherwise, I'd set a calendar appointment to review them a minimum of 4 times a year.

That's it ya'll! Yes, I've been prepping for the past 90 days, but checkout what the past week has entailed. This is SO doable! I'm encouraging you to start tomorrow, but you can do this anytime. It is ALWAYS the right time to decide that you have a calling on your heart and to spend time loving and bettering yourself. Living intentionally will not only improve your own life, but will positively impact the lives of others around you. This is not selfish. I repeat, this is NOT selfish. This investment in yourself will have immeasurable rewards.  Now, go out there and live the life you were made for!

Long Live the Adventure!

Alysha,
Thank you so very much. I wholeheartedly feel you, about being 20 years in the making. 2019 was a transformational year for us, and we are still navigating our new normal. But, there is NO time like the start of a new year, and even better, a new decade to really focus on becoming who we are meant to be! Glad that we are on this journey together!
